Waffle Pops: Mini size treats

I always love an idea of sweet on a stick ^^, it's cute, easy to serve and very suitable for giving.

You can put many kinds of sweet on a stick, the most popular is cake pop. But this time I think about using waffle. Mini Belgian waffle on a stick and decorating it with icing and dragee .... just thinking about it make me feel excited!
I choose yeast type Belgian waffle for this recipe, it's rich with butter and instead of using pearl sugar I use Caramel Granulated sugar (or torbinado sugar or Demerara sugar) for adding sweetness, with this kind of sugar it will turn into caramel when cooking the waffle so it adds caramel taste to it too.
I just love to turn my sweet to something cute but if you just want to eat it (well sometimes it's the only reason why I bake, haha), you don't need to do anything more than kneading the dough and bake it ^^, simple mini waffle with lightly caramel taste is your reward.

Waffle Pops
makes 15

Waffle
150g .......................... Bread flour
1/8tsp ....................... Salt
1 1/2tbsp ................... Caramel Granulated sugar (or torbinado sugar or Demerara sugar)
2tsp ........................... Instant yeast
1 ................................. Egg
50ml .......................... Milk
70g ............................. Unsalted butter
for dipping
50g ............................. Caramel Granulated sugar (or torbinado sugar or Demerara sugar)

Decoration
3tbsp .......................... Icing sugar
1-1 1/2tsp ................... Water
.................................... Colored sugar or dragree
.................................... Pop sticks
Ingredients: Caramel Granulated sugar (or torbinado sugar or Demerara sugar), bread flour, milk, salt, egg, butter, and instant yeast

Put the flour, instant yeast and Caramel Granulated sugar (or torbinado sugar or Demerara sugar) into the bowl, whisk to combine.
Put the salt into the bowl, whisk again.
Pour the milk into the egg.

Whisk to combine.
 Pour into the bowl.
 Mix until moisten.
Remove from the bowl and knead until combine, then add the butter.
Knead until combine, it won't be smooth but it won't stick to your hand.
Put into a bowl, cover and let rise for 30 minutes.
 The dough will be double.
Divide into 15 pieces, and roll into a ball. Put Caramel Granulated sugar (or torbinado sugar or Demerara sugar) into a small bowl.
Press each side of the dough into the sugar bowl.
 Shape into a ball again.
Let it rise until double, about 30 minutes.
Heat a waffle iron, and cook the waffle.
The sugar will caramelise so it will be some smoke from the iron ^^.
Remove from the waffle iron and let it cool on a wire rack.
Mix the icing sugar and water (drop by drop) until you get a thick but runny consistency. Put the icing in a piping bag.
Stick the waffle with the pop stick, then cut the icing bag (just a small hole), Drizzle the icing over the waffle, decorate with colored sugar or dragee if you want.

  1. Hi, love the idea of mini treats. Is this going to be chewy or crispy after cooling down?

  3. Hi
It will be chewy when cool.
BTW I have the same problem when I use some brand of butter ^^" you can see in this photo

But most of the time it will be better after kneading it.
