Chocolate and Vanilla Zebra cake

For me, making small cake is more fun, because it's cute and I can make it more often ^^.


So, the pans that I always keep in the kitchen are 15, 18 and 20 cm pans, I think they are the best size to start when you buying pan for starting your baking life ^^, as you can create endless recipe with only 3 pans. 15 cm pan may sound too small, but if you just baking for your family, the amount of this pan is the best. 
Today I make very easy cake that can be fitted into 15 cm pan, plus you don't need electronic hand mixer for making it too, the only equipments that you really need are a whisk and a sifter, hehe. Because this recipe use oil as a base, it's easier to mix the batter, just everything until combine, that's all.
Making zebra pattern for the cake is not complicated, or I can say it's too easy, haha, all you have to do is spoon the batter into the center of the pan alternately, and you get very cute zebra cake! You can use this easy technique to make zebra pattern in other recipe too, ^^.

Chocolate and Vanilla Zebra cake
Makes 15x15 cm cake


Vanilla batter
60 g .......................... Rice bran oil
65 g .......................... Granulated sugar
1 ............................... Egg
50 g .......................... Milk
.................................. Pinch of Salt
1/2 tsp ....................... Vanilla extract
110 g ......................... Cake flour
1/2 tsp ....................... Baking powder

Chocolate batter
60 g .......................... Rice bran oil
65 g .......................... Granulated sugar
1 ............................... Egg
65 g .......................... Milk
.................................. Pinch of Salt
95 g ........................... Cake flour
15 g ........................... Cocoa powder
1/2 tsp ....................... Baking powder





Preheat an oven to 190C
Line 15x15 cm cake pan with baking paper.


 I use rice bran oil.


 Make vanilla batter:
Put oil, egg, milk, salt and vanilla extract into a bowl.


 Whisk to combine.


 Sift the flour, and baking powder into the bowl.


 Whisk to combine, and set aside while making chocolate batter.


 Make chocolate batter.
Put oil, egg, milk, and salt into a bowl. Whisk to combine.
  Sift the flour, cocoa powder and baking powder into the bowl.


 Whisk to combine.


 Spoon the vanilla and chocolate batter alternately (about 1 tbsp) into the center of the prepared pan.


 Until you use all of them.


 Use bamboo stick to create effect.



Bake for 35 minutes in the preheated oven or until the toothpick insert into the center come out with few crumbs.
Let it cool on a wire rack for 10 minutes before removing the cake from the pan.

    1. The baking time will be around 35-40 minutes, you can use 190C ^^.
