Now, it's January, new year (again), I still have many things I want to do, the list of mine is longer and longer every years ^^. A lot of new games, anime, manga and concert, haha (no work in my list!!, as I have to do anyway, that's life).
Last year, my youtube channel just started, I learnt to edit the video, and have a lot of fun making them, and now I try to take the step by step photo and shoot the video at the same time. Because I know that it's easier to print the photos ^^. I made a lot of basic recipe, and think you're happy with them. This year, I will add more complex recipes to my channel, so stay tuned!
Today, it's another simple recipe, but I really want you to know that, simple recipes are important, and you have to master it, and later complicated recipe will be easy for you too. Basic jam roll, it's very easy sponge cake. With a little help from baking powder, the cake will be puffy. The key for making sponge are 1. whip the eggs and sugar until ribbon stage and 2. fold the batter lightly but quickly to prevent the bubble to become flat. So, let's try it together, even it's simple and easy, you will enjoy it, I'm sure.
Simple Jam Roll
Makes 30 cm rolled cake
95g ..................................... Granulated sugar
............................................ Pinch of salt
3 ......................................... Eggs
35g ..................................... Melted butter
35g .................................... Cake flour
35g ..................................... Corn starch
1/4tsp ................................. Baking powder
1/2tsp ................................. Vanilla extract
............................................ Simple syrup
1tbsp .................................. Grand marnier (optional)
1/2c .................................... Jam (I use strawberry jam^^)
............................................ Icing sugar, for sprinkle over the cake
Preheat the oven to 220c.
Line 30x30 cm pan with baking paper.
Sift the flour, corn starch, and baking powder together.
Beat the eggs until foamy, add salt and granulated sugar gradually.
Beat until ribbon stage (you can draw the letter "8" with the batter.
Mix 1/2 cup of the batter with the melted butter.
Fold the flour mixture into the batter, divide into 2-3 times.
Pour the butter mixture back into the bowl, fold to combine.
Pour the vanilla extract into the bowl.
Fold to combine.
Pour into the prepared pan.
Smooth the top and tap lightly to remove large air bubbles.
Bake for 9-12 minutes.
Remove the paper, and roll cake with new sheets of paper.
Let it cool completely.
Mix the simple syrup with Grand marnier, and sprinkle over the cake.
Spread the jam over the cake.
Roll the cake, use the ruler to tighten the cake.
Refrigerate for 30 minutes (if you want ^^, it will be easier to cut).
Sprinkle the cake with icing sugar before serving.
